THE SCALA.COM REPORT
Hour One
Monday 2 December 2019/ Hour 1, Block A: Tom Joscelyn, Senior Fellow, Foundation for Defense of Democracies; & Senior Editor for FDD's Long War Journal; in re:  No, the Taliban don't seem to be negotiating anything of any utility to the US.  State Dept is under a lot of pressure to come up with something (and State has been surprisingly credulous of Taliban’s constant, mendacious claims). In the past year, no change whatsoever in this respect with al Qaeda, either. Why would anyone want to proceed with an agreement with absolves the Taliban of the fundamental reason for the war. Taliban and al Q are still basically blood brothers in Afghanistan.  https://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2019/11/taliban-overruns-distric...
Monday 2 December 2019/ Hour 1, Block B: Tom Joscelyn, Long War Journal and FDD; in re:  Jihadists not deprogrammed pop up again with mass murder. Usman Khan, now dead on the London Bridge.
Analysis: Islamic State claims attack in London by al Qaeda-inspired terrorist   On Nov. 29, Usman Khan slashed and stabbed at pedestrians on London Bridge, killing two people. The Islamic State has claimed credit for the murders, describing Khan as its “fighter” and attributing his actions to the group’s calls for violence in countries belonging to the anti-caliphate coalition. Pro-Islamic State social media channels have also promoted Khan with imagery portraying him as a soldier of the terror group.
However, Khan was first drawn to jihadism years before the rise of the Islamic State’s so-called caliphate. He was well known to counterterrorism officials because of his pro-al-Qaeda leanings and attraction to the teachings of Anwar al-Awlaki, a prominent Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) ideologue who both inspired and directly oversaw a string of plots in the West. Indeed, Khan is the latest terrorist to be influenced by al-Qaeda, only to have the Islamic State claim him as its own.  . . .   https://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2019/12/analysis-islamic-state-c...
Monday 2 December 2019/ Hour 1, Block C:  Pastor Dr. William Devlin, of REDEEM! and Infinity Bible Church; with Gordon Chang, Daily Beast, in re: Hong Kong. Bill was inside the Polytechnic University with 1,100 students for three days doing volunteer medical work; were eventually surrounded by riot police.  Pastor Bill and Bishop Ha negotiated with the police for many hours in the middle of the night: can we go in and help everyone out safely?  Our demands three times were not met. At 4:30 AM we called it a day.
Tear-gassed every fifteen to twenty minutes; people carried umbrellas vs the water cannon, tear gas and rubber bullets. Witnessed savagery. The young people involved were committed to nonviolence. Prayer meeting the next day at a police station in Kowloon.  Committed to human rights and liberty for Hong Kong. We were praying for the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act in Washington, which passed.  Today, tens of thousands out on the streets.  Young people are committed to continuing.  Masses of US flags and people singing the Star-Spangled Banner. In Legco (the Legislative Council), only 30 out of 70 are pro-democracy.
The HK democracy movement were so encouraged that three religious leaders had come all the way from New York City; and much so with the support of the US Congress and the president. Falun Gong, Uyghurs.
Monday 2 December 2019/ Hour 1, Block D: Michael Yon, Hong Kong reporter, in re: Hong Kong eighteen District Councils vote. China made this normally-unimportant vote a referendum on the protests —and pro-democracy took 88% of the enormous vote.  Beijing’s councils – all hitherto controlled by Beijing — were reduced to [one?].  The President Trump signed the HK Human Rights and Democracy Act, was another huge victory for the patriots. So far, 4,500 arrests. Poland; I as a Special Forces member and lived in Poland.  Hong Kong is remarkably parallel: [liberation vision]. One rule for success: never quit.  Poles never did and Hong Kongers [ought] not.
