26 June 2012 DAMASCUS - The Syrian Air Defence System has shot down a Turkish Air Force Jet violating its Airspace . Syrian Foreign Ministry spokesman Jihad Makdessi says that the recent downing of a Turkish military aircraft was a defensive act.  In a press conference held on Monday, Makdessi said that the aircraft was in Syrian territory. He said this was confirmed by Turkish statements admitting a violation of Syrian sovereignty.

Thursday 935P Eastern Time:   Richard Epstein, Hoover and Chicago Law, in re:  ACA / Obamacare.

Thursday 950P Eastern Time:  Joseph Rago, WSJ editorial board & Pulitzer Prizewinner, in re: Anti-injunction laew: taxes can't be challenged til they'e collected . (Gov't has to collect taxes; if everyone challenged every tax, nothing would get done.)  Thee's never before been a combination mandate and tax. Confusion.  Justices devoted 5-1/2 hours to the notion that this was a tax; although the govt never argued it was. Sui generis John Roberts.  Buying gasoline is an activity. Going without insurance: is that an activity? Conclusion: "going without" is now regarded as an activity, and so can be taxed. Roberts's slip is a mistake that will be talked about for hundreds of years.

Thursday 1005P (705P Pacific Time):  Malcolm  Hoenlein, in re: Syria shot down a Turkish jet.  Now Turkish and Syrian troops are amassing at the border. The peaceful infrastructure of the entire mMiddle East has shifted.  Shootdown was not an accident; Erdogan called an Article 4 NATO meeting.  Syria is now considered to have the fourth-most effective air defense system in the world: US, Russia, _____, then Syria.  Remarkable that there's been on response to the shootdown. There have been five Syrian air incursions over Turkey, which Turkey said were not hostile.   Huge numbers of Syrian defections of high military officers. Potential for major conflict. Note PKK, Kurdish separatist movement.  Once Assad and Erdogan were best of friens.  Continuing inability of major powers to act. Syria transferring SCUDs to the north, Underground army bases. Perhaps coming: chem/bio weapons. Egypt: court said he army had no right to arrest civilians; general concerned. Use Erdogan as model: he slowly but surely minimized the power of the wholly secular Turkish army, which had for generations kept the nation stable.

Thursday 1020P (720P Pacific Time):  Malcolm Hoenlein:  . . . Egypt cut off relations with Iran in 1980. Muslim Brotherhood now begins a fresh engagement; huge shift.   Much-remarked interview with Mohamed Morsi by Fars Agency (pro-Ahmadinejad); IRNA (pro-Khamenei) denied interview took place.

Thursday 1035P (735P Pacific Time):  Ken Ballen, author, and founder of Terror-Free Tomorrow; in re:  Terrorists in Love: The Real Lives of Islamic Radicals - personal stories of six current and reformed Islamic terrorists. America represents the great temptation to Islamists: in opposition to Muslim submission.  US has given the Pakistani army $20 bil since 9/11, much of which has been used to train terrorists to fight against the US.  Until we can win against ideas, we cannot win.  Ultimately, Muslims, themselves, wil have to shift.  Mullah Omar determines battle strategies vs the US in dreams from God.   After 9/11, he took up residence in Quetta as he wa awaiting a vision. WHen a dream came that his beard had turned pure white, they all decided it was time to fight the infidel. If we understand that Mullah Omar is motivated by dreams and visions can we have a chance.  Quran says hat the Day of Judgment cannot come till every Jew is killed; that only a gharkad tree will hide the Jew. Afghanistan is uprooting tens of thousands of gharkad trees.

Thursday 1050P (750P Pacific Time):  David Pollock, Washington Institute, in re: Turkish-Syrian relations after the downing of the jet.  Mobilization along the Turkish-Syrian border: predicate for armed conflict?  Probably neither side wants to escalate; probably each side signaling it'll stand for its rights but hoping this is deterrence.  If there's another shooting incident, Turkey will respond. Last Friday: over intl waters, Syria shot down Turkish jet.  Perhaps a miscalculation by Assad, not likely trying to drag Turkey into a shooting war.   Syria enjoys massive support in training. staffing and materiel from Russia.

Thursday 1105P (805P Pacific Time): Itamar Marcus, Palestinian Media Watch (translation of Palestinian media from Arabic to English) director,  in re:  Palestinian incitement: as  the Palestinian Authority president, Mahmoud Abbas, will meet with the Israeli Vice Premier, Shaul Mofaz, on Sunday in the highest-level meeting between the sides since peace talks broke down in 2010.‫ ‬All relevant in light of Iran VP's comments.

New official terminology guide (critical part of ideology): no longer allowed to say "suicide bombing," needs to to be "shehada-seeking deed" (martyrdonm-seeking, as in, killing Jews is what Allah wants.)  Star of David now has to be called "six-pointed star." Cannot say "Israel"; must say "Israel-colonist state."   "Israeli-American poison terms." "Temple Mount" s "noble sanctuary."  Minister of Religion said: Jerusalem is  he capital of the Palestinian state, and Jews never had  presence - even though the Quran speaks of both the First and Second Temple.  "Jews are expanding all over he world" "One of the results of the first Zionist Congress was the publication of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion." ! (The Protocols of the Elders of Zion was a forgery by the Russian secret police, taken from a French tract denouncing Napoleon. Henry Ford spent vast sums printing and distributing these around the world.)   Speeches on Israel being an imperialist plant of he US, in order to take the resources of the Middle East.  After Itamar Marcus presented the problem of the Protocols, to European parliaments, they were horrified because they'd pad for the books.  That sentence was deleted.

Thursday 1120P (820P Pacific Time):  Dore Gold, Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs president, in re: Egyptian elections, and Iran, from the Israeli perspective. Impassioned, rude speeches on the West and Israel. MB is a very smart organization - sounds like a Vermont fraternity. It seeks to establish a global caliphate. London branch has journal called, The Muslim Brotherhood's Message. Logo: "Our goal: world domination." Founded by Hasan al Banna; set up the "secret apparatus" for political assassination and terorism. His writings are still on the Net; calls for recovery of lost territory around the Mediterranean, incl Andalusia, islands. [Note: google this:  "banna" + Nazi] See their website: ikhwanweb.com. Note that English-language communications are almost always quite different from Arabic-langiage messages.  MB probing for new tie with Teheran, having sent the Gazan leader there to investigate.  Morsi will have to feed 80million Egyptians.

Thursday 1135P (835P Pacific Time):  Bob Zimmermman, behindtheblack, in re: Spaceship Two; private telescope to hunt asteroid; new mineral in the Allende carbonaceous chondrite of 1969.

wikipedia:

The Allende meteorite is the largest carbonaceous chondrite ever found on Earth. The fireball was witnessed at 01:05 on February 8, 1969, falling over the Mexican state of Chihuahua. After breaking up in the atmosphere, an extensive search for pieces was conducted and it is often described as "the best-studied meteorite in history". The Allende meteorite is notable for possessing abundant, large calcium-aluminium-rich inclusions, which are among the oldest objects formed in the Solar System.
