JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW

Co-host: Mary Kissel, Wall Street Journal editorial board

Thursday 905P Eastern Time:  Victor Davis Hanson, Hoover, in re:  Students are now so deeply in debt  - $1 trillion, climbing at $3,000 a second; unemployment between ages 18 and 30 is 45% - and academe has no obligation to focus on real money because everything that comes in is governmental dollars.  The Democratic Party has become one of the very rich trying to aid the poor with no reference to the middle class.  In 1939, the unemployment rate was just what it had bee when he first entered. Only the tragedy of WWII bailed us out; I fear that this president may get us in to a little war.

Thursday 920P Eastern Time:  Mary Kissel, in re: "a million new mfrg jobs" are among the president's promises; however, not growth: promise to cut college tuition. No prospect of a burst of growth in 2013 – which, I've been taught, can cut the deficit, will improve the economy, increase the number of jobs.  Every GDP point is a $3 trillion reduction in the deficit. If we went to 4% cut now, we'd cut $6 trillion by 2016.  It’s not just cutting spending, it’s opening new markets, lifting burdens on businesses, getting them to spend money. Elders: ultralow interest rates punish anyone who has money in the bank. The president wants not to increase our business as much as cut the value of the dollar.  Since the IPO, GM stock is at l ess htan half, and real estate in Detroit is cratering; selling a major commercial bldg at $10/sq ft.

Thursday 935P Eastern Time:  Bill Roggio, Long War Journal; Arif Rafiq, Middle East Institute & The Express Tribune, in re: Two attempts by al Qaeda-linked terrorists wearing suicide vests to invade the nuclear stocks of Pakistan.  Nuclear site cordoned off, reported that alQ-linked ops tried to get in; perhaps also at a second site. Pakistani Taliban figures from Punjab province  - not Pashtun, but the largest population, home to large number of groups formerly in Kashmir – have a record of targeting Shi'a Muslims, have been responsible for most of the insider attacks on mil & intelligence facilities in Pakistan. Individuals? Multiple teams? Is it all a lie by the Pak military to look good? A few years ago, unsuccessful attacks by Baloch separatists. This is the first overt attack on nuclear facilities, although storehouses of components may have been the subjects of attacks in the past.  See: LongWarJournal.com         ISAF and Coalition Forces in Afgh have reported a diminishing number of attacks, so "we're doing better" – but this is disingenuous. There's no way to say that the Taliban's momentum is broken. The enemy is resilient, able to strike, and eager to do so. Without Pakistani safe havens, the Afghan Taliban never could succeed as it is.  ISAF has no cross-border plan; that wd probably be done by the CIA and the 75th Rangers (Special Ops); ISAF just looks the other way. Pakistanis can say till they’re blue in the face that there's no danger of their nuclear materials being taken, but it's not true.  The US president can't sleep when these are in danger, so Pres Obama probably won’t get much sleep tonight.  AR: I have strong confidence in the US intell apparatus to provide accurate information.

Thursday 950P Eastern Time:  Malcolm Hoenlein, Conference of Presidents, in re:  Gov Strickland of Ohio introduced amendments to the platform on Wednesday: to associate the Party with God, and that the capital of Israel is Jerusalem. Two-thirds voice vote three times, nays were louder, he pushed it through, and there were boos.   Anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish sentiment on the floor.  Bad to hand to our enemies in al Jazeera, Xinhua, FARS Agency.  In fact, American law dictates that Jerusalem be acknowledged as the capital of Israel. The president has the right to delay the bldg of an embassy, but he cannot change the law.  Iranian overflights of Iraqi air space, brought to the attn of Maliki by VP Biden; Maliki "demands proof"; Biden and Lieberman went to Baghdad to prove, Maliki claims not to believe this.   Iraq is an Iranian subagent.  Iran has provided a cargo plane for Syrian military – crossing Iraqi air space.  Report: Syrian WMD sites are much more scattered and common than thought: 6 bunkers plus 14 stockpiles, with perhaps 50 locations. US doesn’t know how many or where.  IAEA [again] clueless.

Thursday 1005P (705P Pacific Time):  2012 Democratic National Convention, Charlotte, North Carolina.  VP Joseph Biden.  John Batchelor's comments, including many statistics.

Thursday 1020P (720P Pacific Time): 2012 Democratic National Convention, Charlotte, North Carolina. President Obama.

Thursday 1035P (735P Pacific Time): 2012 Democratic National Convention, Charlotte, North Carolina. President Obama.

Thursday 1050P (750P Pacific Time): 2012 Democratic National Convention, Charlotte, North Carolina.

Thursday 1105P (805P Pacific Time):  Craig Unger, auhor of Boss Rove; David Drucker, Roll Call; Lara M Brown, Villanova; Salena Zito, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review; in re: convention. LMB: W have a bi-modal distribution.

Thursday 1120P (820P Pacific Time):   Gene Countryman, KNSS; Jeff Bliss, The Bliss Index; Larry Johnson, No Quarter, in re: convention

Thursday 1135P (835P Pacific Time):  Malcolm Hoenlein; David Ze’ev, veteran reporter & host of “Weekend Report” on Israeli radio; in re: Israel, security, Syria, Iran

Thursday 1150P (850P Pacific Time):  Thursday 1150P (850P Pacific Time):  Turks, Iranians, Egyptians, and Saudis, all working to combine efforts to deflect Western power.  Morsi at Non-Aligned Movement in Teheran: alarmed Saudis (who loathe Iran); insulted the Iranians by blessing the first two Muslim Caliphs and said that Assad should be removed from power – although the Iranian translators said that the Syrian rebels were fighting an oppressive government in Bahrain! – referred to Nasser  to endear himself to Egyptian youth; then used a Quranic quotation used by the Blind Sheikh in speaking to his military officers.  Sent tanks into Sinai for street cred vs Israel, then removed them to placate Israel.  Will soon visit the US.   Big delegation of US businessmen leaving for Egypt tomorrow under State Dept aegis. Announced new provincial governors beholden to Morsi, and another minion to be Minister of Telecommunications, and yet anther as Human Rights director.  Intends to reassert Egyptian sovereignty over the wider region.  To maintain his power, his main obligation is to improve the Egyptian economy, which at present is disastrous.  Iran: Clean-up at Parchin military base. Nicaragua: a major training base run by Iran and Hizballah from which to attack the USA, near Honduran border, bringing together drug smugglers and criminal cartels; used to fund operations at a cost of millions per year;  with more people flowing there through Canada. Also Ecuadorian banks set up to avoid US sanctions on Iran.  Conventional weapons threat, terrorist networks, nuclear weapons capacity – all alarming.   Syria: minimum of 20, maybe 50, chem./bio/nuke sites. If soldiers defect or the government collapses – the sites could be raided, which is a source of deep concern to observers everywhere.

Thursday/Fri 1205A (905 Pacific Time):  Robert Zimmerman, behindtheblack, in re: Curiosity and a new planetary system; a wise survey.
