Hour One
Wednesday 10 April  2019 / Hour 1, Block A:  Arthur Waldron, Lauder Professor of International Relations in the Department of History at the University of Pennsylvania, in re: Modernization theory and the normalization of China's regime. There’s o standard of law or contacts in China, Ask the Kawasaki people in Jan: had a contact as think as a phone book for its bullet train; three months after the train launched, China invented the bullet train.  China is lawless and completely untrustworthy. Impossible for a law-abiding nation to do real business; no match,  between free, law-abiding countries and any communist or fascist state.  Until she really remodels – throws out the Party, has free speech, a rule of law, she can't hack it in the international world.  For forty years they’ve intimidated us – vide Bill Clinton reciting the Three No’s.   China is a kind of lose state; if you try to standardize it, you put so much pressure on it that it splits.  / For the last forty years the State Dept has consistently neglected its obligations to Taiwan in the false belief that that’d [be encouraging to] China.
Wednesday 10 April  2019 / Hour 1, Block B: Peter Huessy, director of Strategic Deterrent Studies, Mitchell Institute of the Air Force Association, in re:  His recent presentation at Global Strike Command.  . . .  Recollecting Davos: “China is the anaconda in the chandelier.”
Wednesday 10 April  2019 / Hour 1, Block C: Josh Rogin, Washington Post , in re: Committee on the Present Danger: China. Gordon, not a member, spoke prominently. Group of China hawks in and outside the system calling on the US to be aware of internal and external oppression; planting a flag: We’ve been correct, and we need a major shift in the US position toward China.  Kashgar report: PRC has constructed a total surveillance stat, treated Uyghurs with total disappearance inside the city, where they’re moved to concentration camps, and either tortured or killed. Your phone is monitored; one child said that her friend’s parents read the Quran – and the whole family disappeared. The sheer cruelty and massive atrocities being committed by the Chinese government is bringing Washington together on the matter.
Book on Seapower States. Starts with Athens, then Carthage, Venice, the Dutch Republic and Britain. We’re approaching a condition similar to that of Rome and Carthage.  Cato the Elder ended every speech with: Carthage must be destroyed.
Not sure that there’s a historical analogy to this.  Battle lines now being drawn in the fight over policy vis-à-vis China.
Confucius Institutes on American campuses. Universities are waking up: the Chinese Communist Party is everywhere; now everyone is turning over all rocks.  Some of the Institutes are creating corporate corruption, some are issuing spies, some are just teaching Chinese language.  Sen Ted Cruz is a major figure in shining light on this.
       Microsoft: AI to the PRC??
Wednesday 10 April  2019 / Hour 1, Block D: : Josh Rogin, Washington Post, in re: Microsoft selling advanced AI technology – facial recognition technology – with the main Chinese military committee.  Never really stopped. Notion that you could separate interactions with certain Chinese entities from working with the Chinese state.  Impossible.
Need to have such alliances be illegal in the US.  . . . Taiwan’s risks and the need to continue to support it.  Chinese interference in all respects is pervasive, in Taiwan. Economic coercion, bribery, threats, to prevail.  Opponents say “Don't worry, we're fine”
US and Taiwanese democracies are under heavy attack.

Hour Two
Wednesday 10 April  2019 / Hour 2, Block A:  David Maxwell of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies in re: The Trump-Moon Jae-in summit. . . . Moon as Kim’s spokesman.  Yonhap photo of Trump with an American flag behind him, standing next to Moon — who has a DPRK flag behind him.
Wednesday 10 April  2019 / Hour 2, Block B:  Tara O, adjunct Fellow at the Pacific Forum and Fellow at the Institute for Corean-American Studies, in re:  South Korea's Moon Jae-in's latest moves to constrict democracy, especially attempts to censor social media
Wednesday 10 April  2019 / Hour 2, Block C:  Andrew McCarthy, Fox News, in re: The Mueller report and AG Barr’s testimony today.  The history of the counterterrorism investigation.
Wednesday 10 April  2019 / Hour 2, Block D:  Andrew McCarthy, Fox News, in re:  The Mueller report and AG Barr’s testimony today.  The history of the counterterrorism investigation.

Hour Three
Wednesday 10 April  2019 / Hour 3, Block A:  Monica Crowley, Fox News and Washington Times, in re: Despite media’s best effort to drown out the phenomenal economic success under this Administration, the American people are living it out and see it.  Full employment, consumer confidence, manufacturing up.  Offshore drilling, resurrection of coal; trade freeform brought the EU and China to the table to protect the American worker.
“Socialism is storming back with its critique” – we've permitted bat history teaching for the last forty years; campuses are dominated by people who believe in the fairytale of socialism. Old-school die-hards, like Bernie Sanders, steeped in Soviet idealism; newer patch, lie AOC, who sell the concept of “equality,” not explaining that you can have socialism only if it’s enforced at the barrel of a gun. Ergo, a police state.  Some elites are “the vanguard,” who bring a society to Communism. Elites are supposed eventually to wither away so la gente can govern themselves.  Note: after gaining power, they never wither away.
Wednesday 10 April  2019 / Hour 3, Block B:  Monica Crowley, Fox News and Washington Times, in re: Unanswered questions anent the politiciizati0n of the DoJ and FBI. . . .  Democrats have been running the clock down to protect themselves.
